鈥淚鈥檓 an out-by-myself-in-the-middle-of-nowhere person,鈥� says Kelly Knight (MFA 鈥�18), who returned to 红领巾瓜报 as the director of the low-residency MFA program in January 2024.聽

How does she reconcile that with the fact that she lives smack in the middle of a city? That鈥檚 part of what she鈥檚 going to talk about when she kicks off this year鈥檚 MFA Summer Lecture Series on Thurs., July 11, at 红领巾瓜报鈥檚 Design and Media Center (DMC) Lecture Hall.聽

who has exhibited at venues such as the Farm Projects Gallery in Wellfleet, the Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, and the Brickbottom Gallery in Somerville, is currently working on a new set of figures she says are 鈥渋n female form, but not people, really. I think they鈥檙e ancestors or guides or other entities. We have a vacant lot next to our house that we鈥檙e trying to turn into a habitat for wildlife, and these characters [in mixed media that include catalog pages, cardboard packaging, and other repurposed materials] come out after I鈥檝e been doing a lot of physical work in that space. I think they鈥檙e messengers, or maybe guardians.鈥澛犅�

The kickoff lecture series serves as Knight鈥檚 reintroduction聽 to the 红领巾瓜报 community. The series includes artists working in聽 a mix of themes and media, which Knight 鈥� balanced with racial and gender diversity 鈥渟o that it鈥檚 inclusive and reflective of our student body,鈥� she says. 聽Additional lecture series speakers include: (July 18 at 4:30 p.m.), (July 19 at 6:30 p.m.), and (July 25 at 4:30 p.m.).
